This is a half acre piece of property next to a sugar cane field. It is a fairly new development, with Tico houses in a friendly neighborhood. The street I am on ends at my piece of land, has three other vacant lots which are owned by gringos (one is a friend of mine who is teaching English here and planning to build her home base here).
There is an aqueduct (ditch) at the lower end which provides irrigation for the farms around. I have water rights to it and can use it for my own irrigation and/or water feature. The banana trees are on the easement between my property and the aqueduct and will be for my use. The easement adds 200 sq mtrs to my useable land, and there is plenty of room for a wonderful house with a fabulous view, and also a guest cabina or two.
Even a "Dome Home" might be possible, as there is a gentle slope that could be excavated and used to partially cover it.
I want to basically layout a huge tile courtyard with roof and then close in a couple of Bed/sitting areas with nice baths. The climate here is so wonderful, even in the rainy season, that living indoors is not necessary. Even the insects are not a problem. I plan to have an outdoor kitchen and living area completely open to the view, and studio/workshop on the large veranda with built-in storage accessable from both inside and out.
Meanwhile, the search for a large comfortable rental with a view and garden continues.
A solar powered system of pumps and small ponds could bring water up from the bottom and feed a small stream/waterfall that would flow back down to the aqueduct and provide access from any point for irrigation during the dry season.
I will be meeting with an architect to see if my plans are possible. All services are already to the property, and it is very close to the local bus service. The location is midway between Grecia where I live now and is the community that I have adopted, and Alejuella where I do not want to live, but is convenient for shopping.
